BSMA is the recognised Trade Association representing the secondary nonferrous metals industry of the United Kingdom.
The membership of the Association covers large and small UK companies, together with overseas companies as associate members.
AIMS AND OBJECTS
To promote and protect the interests of British nonferrous scrap metal merchants, processors and recyclers by all means which may, from time to time, be deemed appropriate.
To communicate the views and opinions of the Association to national, European and International Governments through he various Government departments and public bodies and to seek to influence legislation that may impinge on the industry, the Association being the spokesman for the British Nonferrous Scrap Industry.
To promote a friendly spirit between members by way of meetings, newsletters and regular functions each year.
To promote the image of the nonferrous scrap industry in the United Kingdom and to impress upon the public the national importance of the industry.
To promote educational courses covering all aspects of nonferrous scrap metal reclamation and recycling.
To encourage the amicable settlement of any points of difference between members by way of arbitration or any other means.
WHAT CAN THE ASSOCIATION DO FOR YOU?
The Association is recognised as the representative of the nonferrous scrap industry by Government and professional bodies. It is constantly negotiating with Government Departments, in particular the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of the Environment on behalf of the industry.
Any legislation proposed or introduced by Government bodies affecting the nonferrous scrap industry either directly or indirectly, is thoroughly investigated by the association and, where necessary, representations are made. The Executive Director and Secretariat are available to give assistance and advice where appropriate in resolving problems encountered by members. Professional Advisors (Legal and Environmental) may also be available.
The association is affiliated to the BIR. The BSMA provides representatives on consultative bodies, both National and International, being members of Eurmetrec which is the joint consultative body with the EEC. The BSMA is also a member of the CBI.
