The British Compressed Air Society (BCAS) is the UK's only Trade Association that represents manufacturers, distributors and users of compressors, vacuum pumps, pneumatic tools and allied products. Established back in 1930 at the instigation of the British Government, we actively represent the interests of our members and of the compressed air industry in general. Our aims, which are shared by our members, are to promote the use of safe and reliable power, to improve services offered to the industry, to encourage and help members in developing professional competence, and to bring the experience of members to bear on the conduct of business for the common good.

The British Compressed Air Society was formed in 1930 following pressure from the British Government. The prime purpose of BCAS was to provide a forum for British manufacturers to consider imports and to encourage the manufacture of products for import substitution. The inaugural meeting took place on Wednesday, 8 January 1930 at the Institution of Civil Engineers. The discussion topics continued on from a series of conferences of pneumatic drill and air compressor manufacturers held at the Department of Overseas Trade the previous year.

Today, the Society's structure is based on three tiers of activity: the executive committee, the council, and various permanent committees.

The Executive Committee - deemed to be the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee consists of the President, Vice President, Immediate past President and additional members co-opted at the discretion of the Executive Committee.

Council - consists of the Executive Committee together with the Chairman and Vice Chairman of each permanent committee.

Permanent Committees - covering Compressors & Vacuums, Industrial & Contractors Tools, Pneumatic Control & Air Treatment, Distributors, and Education & Training.

BCAS also sets up special committees and working groups to address specific issues.
