The Association for Road Traffic Safety and Management (ARTSM) is very active and influential in the field of Highways and Transport, representing our Members to various departments in central and local government. The ARTSM makes sure that Members’ legal rights are upheld and will act on their behalf. Maintaining a high profile for our Members is vital and we therefore contribute regularly to the technical press regarding current issues. Keeping up to date with all developments relevant to Highways and Transport is another important function and we make sure that we are aware of all related matters by attending and participating in major conferences and exhibitions. Our Members receive regular updates on current issues and developments via email.
Working closely with various agencies, we encourage and influence technological developments in the industry and are continually striving to help to improve standards across the board. Our work includes close liaison with the Department for Transport, where we take part in technical committees. Other agencies with whom we maintain helpful relationships include the Traffic Engineering Policy Division and the Highways Agency, as well as local authorities and ADEPT (the Association of Directors of Environment, Economy, Planning and Transport. Today, many of our Members have dealings in Europe so we take an active role with the European committee for standardisation (CEN and CENELEC), who are responsible for European standards.
We use our considerable influence to achieve our aim of representing our Members in all appropriate forums to maintain and improve standards, protect Members’ rights and facilitate technological improvements that will benefit all in the field of Highways and Transport.
