A.F.A.C. Ltd specialises in the supply of masking products for use in painting and electro powder-coating applications. We offer a huge range of caps, plugs and bungs that isolate components or specific areas of components so that they remain free from paint or other coatings. 

The range we now offer derives from one single masking product that we developed in the 1980s as an alternative to masking tape. The PVC Studsaver Cap, as it was known, became an overnight success due to the speed of its application and its ability to be used more than once. Within a few years, sales of these masking products had far exceeded those of our original range of fastening products. 

Over the last 20 years we have been developing our range of masking products to meet the needs of the automotive manufacturing sector.  They are now used in the production of many European vehicles – in fact it’s highly likely that the car you are driving today has parts in it which were masked by A.F.A.C. caps, plugs or bungs during the manufacturing process. You might also find that the fasteners used to assemble it were supplied by us too, because we still supply a diverse range of high quality, weldable, self-clinching and rivet type fasteners. 

Our core “Bakewell” range of masking products are made with rubber silicone, a material that offers excellent temperature and chemical resistance. It means they can be used time and time again during finishing operations. We also offer a number of low-cost PVC, natural, neoprene and EPDM rubber alternatives for those who prefer to have lower initial costs.

Masking Products for Holes

A.F.A.C. Ltd offers a huge range of masking products for holes. These can be used in painting, electro-plating, anodizing, stove enamelling and powder coating processes. They are available in a variety of shapes, styles and sizes and can endure temperatures of up to 315°C (excluding PVC So-Lo plugs and PVC Gripple plugs, which are rated to 220°C). Most of our masking plugs and bungs can be used in both plain and threaded holes.

Masking Devices for Studs, Pins and Rods

Also available are a range of masking devices for studs, pins and rods, suitable for use in various finishing processes. These are available in a variety of shapes, styles and sizes and can endure temperatures of up to 315°C or even 400°C (excluding PVC Studsaver Caps, which are rated to 220°C). Masking Devices for Earthing Points

A.F.A.C. Ltd offers a number of masking devices for earthing points and the areas around holes. These products tend to have a conical piece which slips into the hole and a top flange or collar that protects the area around the hole where mating components typically come into contact. They are available in various shapes, styles and sizes and can be fitted into plain or threaded holes. Being made of silicone rubber, these masking devices are able to withstand some of the highest temperatures.

Bakewell Spade Tubes

Bakewell spade tubes and spade caps offer a quick and cost-effective solution for masking earthing tabs during the powder coating process. They are simply pushed over the tab (after any pre-cleaning operations) and left in place for the duration of the coating and stoving process. They should, however, be removed while the part is still warm. Bakewell spade tubes and spade caps can be used time and time again. Layers of coating that have built up on the surface of the tube or cap can easily be removed by rubbing it between the finger and thumb.

Tapes, Cord and Hooks

As well as caps, plugs and bungs, A.F.A.C. Ltd provides a huge range of high temperature masking tapes which are able to endure a range of finishing processes, including electro-plating, anodizing, electrostatic powder-coating and wave soldering. We also supply high temperature silicone rubber cord which can be used to mask slots and recesses. This can be stretched to adjust its diameter and is therefore easily adapted to the size of the recess you wish to protect. Once the cord is fitted into the recess it begins to expand to its original size, ensuring a tight fit.

Masking for Socket Screws

A.F.A.C. Ltd offers a range of plugs specifically designed for masking socket screws. Made from silicone rubber, these are capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 315°C and can be used time and time again, making them an economical solution for masking components during the finishing process.
