Bioremediation

This is a technique used for the remediation of organic contamination in soils. It can be carried out either in-situ or ex-situ, depending on specific site conditions.

Bioremediation of excavated and screened soil (ex-situ) involves the construction of an above-ground treatment bed, the size of which depends on the level of contamination, the available space and the timescales given. This is used to aerate the soil and release hydrocarbons that are trapped within.

Remediation of soil in-situ requires a process known as Bioventing – this is a way of aerating the soils where they lay, and is probably the most cost-effective and efficient technology available for vadose zone remediation of hydrocarbon contaminated sites.

Dual Phase Extraction

Dual Phase Extraction (DPE), sometimes referred to as Multi-Phase Extraction (MPE) or High Vacuum Extraction (HVE), is an in-situ remediation technique similar to Soil Vapour Extraction (SVE), except that a high vacuum tends to be applied which results in the physical removal of several phases of contamination, including the vapour phase, free phase and aqueous phase. DPE is often used on sites that are highly contaminated, especially those that contain a large amount of free phase hydrocarbon. Its application depends on ground conditions and may not be appropriate for all sites. Find out more by visiting Telluric online.

Feasibility Testing

In some situations it can be advantageous to carry out laboratory and/or field pilot trials on the soil or groundwater before full-scale remediation takes place. The information gathered can then be used to guide the project and ensure it is conducted quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively. We’re able to carry out various laboratory tests, field pilot trials, pumping tests and project feasibility studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of a remediation technique prior to the project commencing. To find out exactly how we assess project feasibility, visit Telluric Land Remediation online or contact our service team on 029 2045 3311.

Monitored Natural Attenuation

Monitored Natural Attenuation (MNA) has become accepted as a viable and cost-effective option for the management of risks associated with contaminated groundwater. Its feasibility depends on whether it can be shown to occur at a rate that protects the wider environment and achieves remedial objectives within a reasonable timescale. MNA often forms part of an overall remediation strategy involving active measures such as source removal or containment. Drawing upon a wealth of experience, we’re able to assess the viability of natural attenuation and demonstrate whether it is occurring quickly enough to meet remedial targets.
