Recognised as a leader in Parylene coating and with a great reputation for a fast, friendly and high quality service, Para Tech Coating UK Limited, established in 2002, is an independent and flexible company with ISO 9001 accreditation; achieved in 2007. Managing Director, Russell Thomas set up Para Tech Coating UK Ltd in order to exploit his already extensive knowledge and expertise in conformal coating and Parylene coating; the latter with particular emphasis. Para Tech’s brand, Parylene, is considered the ultimate conformal coating for the protection of circuit boards, components and surfaces.

The company’s services include a standard turnaround time of a maximum of 10 working days, special services as short as 24 hours, a certificate of conformity, cleaning in accordance with IPC-CH-65A, masking, de-masking, inspection, competitive pricing and quotations within 24 hours. After 10 very successful years in the industry, the company is extremely proud to announce a move to brand new, purpose-built and secure premises which have anti-static flooring in all areas and separate workrooms specifically allocated to the various services on offer. For more details on all of the services we offer please visit the main website where you will find a variety of ways to contact us.

Parylene Coating

For the protection of components, devices and surfaces in a variety of industries including aerospace, electronics, engineering, instrumentation and medical, Parylene is considered by many to be the ultimate conformal coating. It’s unique in that it’s created directly on the surface at room temperature and there’s no liquid phase involved. Coatings are of uniform and controllable thickness and completely pinhole free at thicknesses greater than 0.5µ. For a detailed list of answers to the question “why Parylene?” please visit our website where you will find lots of technical specifications and the application procedure. Any question, please give us a call!

About Parylene

Best described as a vapour deposition polymerisation, the Parylene process is unique in coating technology. Parylene is the generic name for the poly-para-xylylenes. These materials form linear, highly-crystalline polymers but can be usefully produced only as coatings and films. There are various types of Parylene including C - a mono-chloro substituted compound, N - the unsubstituted compound and D - the di-chloro substituted compound. Each of these types has various properties which make them ideal for particular uses. Please visit the website for more information and to see more details on how the actual process works! Please contact us with any questions.

Coatings for Circuit Boards

With its properties being exploited in a wide range of applications, Parylene coating has been commercially available for over 30 years and is used in coatings for circuit boards where coatings are thin, truly conformal, stress-free and resistant to solvent and fungal attack. Ionic conduction at the coating substrate interface is minimised due to good adhesion and solder joints are strengthened. Loading is minimised in high frequency applications because of a low dielectric constant. Visit our website to learn more about coatings for circuit boards. If you have any questions or would like information on pricing please just get in touch.

Coatings for Hybrid Circuits

With its properties being exploited in a wide range of applications, Parylene coating has been commercially available for over 30 years and is used in hybrid circuits. Here we have good adhesion to ceramic substrates and good throwing power enables coating within spaces as narrow as 10µ. Interior of packages may be coated via a 1mm hole - coating strengthens wire bonds and immobilizes particles of debris such as solder balls. Visit our website to learn more about coatings for hybrid circuits. If you have any questions or would like information on pricing please just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

Coatings for Components

Parylene coating has been commercially available for over 30 years and is used in coatings in components; its properties being exploited in a wide range of applications. Various components such as ferrite cores and bobbins can be coated in order to reduce friction and abrasion in coil forming and to prevent chipping and dust formation. Additionally, coating cast metal magnets allows for corrosion protection and electrical insulation. A whole range of other components can be coated for electrical insulation and environmental protection such as accelerometers, strain gauges and pressure sensors. Give us a call if you require our component coating service or have any questions.

Coatings for Rubber and Plastics

During the coating process the monomer is able to penetrate the surface of rubbers and plastics giving very good adhesion. A number of benefits come with coatings for rubbers and plastics such as a 2µ coating imparting dry lubricant and wear resistance characteristics to a surface. Take silicone rubber keypads, which are coated to improve the feel of the surface and also to protect the printing, and, O-rings, which are coated in order to reduce friction in syringes, for example. Additionally, an even thicker coating allows for an improvement in chemical and solvent resistance. Call us to see how we can help you.

Coatings for Medical Components

Parylene has many uses in the field of medical components due to its excellent barrier properties. It also cannot be hydrolytically degraded in the corrosive biological environment and is capable of penetrating and coating the bore of narrow tubes. A range of other uses include the protection of electrical circuitry and many other components such as in pacemakers, it can protect the body from toxic materials, adds surface lubricity to help improve the functioning of catheters and probes etc. It can also trap and prevent the production of surface debris in implants, for example. Contact us to find out more.

Coatings for Optics and Instrumentation

There are many uses for Parylene in this field due to the excellent optical and barrier properties it possesses, additionally, the stress free nature of the coatings are appropriate particularly in protecting moisture-sensitive elements such as potassium bromide windows. You can read more about this kind of application on our website. With this in mind, Parylene coatings have also found uses in other applications such as strengthening paper in old books and manuscripts, preserving archaeological artefacts (particularly those from underwater sites) and coating explosives and solid rocket fuels in order to make them less moisture-sensitive and to modify other characteristics.

Liquid Conformal Coating

We have a range of services on offer including cleaning, coating, masking, de-masking and inspection plus we can give you a certificate of conformity if required. We can apply the coating you require using dip, gel, hand or spray processes as required - we will advise what is best for your particular application. We pride ourselves on a turnaround time of 7 working days (maximum), special services as short as 24 hours and we can provide quotes within 24 hours. Why come to us? We have the facilities, experience, we give a great service and we offer very competitive pricing.

The Benefits of Parylene

There are so many benefits in using Parylene - for the protection of components, devices and surfaces in a variety of industries including aerospace, electronics, engineering, instrumentation and medical, Parylene is considered by many to be the ultimate conformal coating. It’s unique in that it’s created directly on the surface at room temperature and there’s no liquid phase involved. Parylenes have excellent electrical properties, they are chemically and biologically inert, stable and make excellent barrier materials. Additionally, they are almost completely unaffected by solvents, have low bulk permeability and are hydrophobic. Visit our main web page to find out more about all of the benefits.

The Engineering Properties of Parylene

If you visit our main web page on the engineering properties of Parylene you can see a table of all the types and their individual properties. Such details include refractive indexes, tensile strength, yield elongation, melting points, thermal conductivity, dielectric constants and much more. Should you have any questions about any of these figures, or which Parylene might be best for your particular application then please feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to help you in any way that we are able to. We look forward to hearing from you here at Para Tech Coating UK Ltd!
