MEDAC Ltd provides microanalytical and metals analysis services for companies across the pharmaceutical, chemical and biotechnology industries. We also serve many senior academic institutions, both in the UK and worldwide.

Founded in 1988, MEDAC Ltd has over the course of 25 years established itself as one of the leading microanalytical and metals analysis companies in the country. Our reputation has been built upon high quality work, efficient services and reasonable prices.

All of our procedures are subject to a quality management system that has been ISO certified since 1997. The company is currently accredited to the internationally recognised BS EN ISO 9001:2008 standard for the provision of a microanalytical service.

You can find out more about our commitment to quality by visiting MEDAC online. Here you’ll also find more information about our services.

If you would like to discuss your requirements with a member of the MEDAC team, please get in touch using the contact details provided at the top of this page.

Air Sensitives - Visit our website

Our highly experienced staff regularly carry out analysis on air sensitive materials and hygroscopic samples. These are handled and sealed under an Argon atmosphere in a Faircrest glove box. In these conditions air sensitive samples can be analysed for C, H & N, S, P, halogens and metals.

Air sensitive materials require slightly more time for analysis than others. Turnaround is therefore usually within four working days as apposed to two. Minimum sample size will depend on the type of analysis required.

Please get in touch to find out more.

CH&N Analysis - Visit our website

This is carried out on one of our three elemental analysers. These provide a cost-effective means of establishing sample purity in a range of materials, from volatiles to polymers. When used in conjunction with other techniques, CH&N analysis is an essential tool in sample characterisation.

We offer a same day turnaround service for extremely urgent requests. However, even non-urgent samples can be analysed within just two working days. Accuracy is ±0.30% absolute.

The minimum sample size that we can take is 2 mg. Find out more by visiting MEDAC online.

Sulfur Analysis - Visit our website

Sulfur is analysed using a Thermo EA1108 or FlashEA1112 series elemental analyser. The process is often used alongside other forms of elemental analysis, such as CH&N, and can be applied to most sample types. Normal turnaround for sulfur analysis is two working days, however we do also offer a same day service for particularly urgent requirements. Accuracy is ±0.30% absolute and the detection limit is <0.1%. Minimum sample size is usually 5 mg, though this does depend on the nature of the sample. Please get in touch to find out more.

Oxygen Analysis - Visit our website

Oxygen is analysed after pyrolysis of the sample under conditions that produce oxygen bound as carbon monoxide. The process is carried out on a ThermoFlashEA1112 elemental analyser, and may be applied to most organic compounds (except those containing large quantities of fluorine, which interferes with the process). Normal turnaround time for oxygen analysis is two working days, however we can arrange shorter turnarounds for samples that are particularly urgent. The minimum sample size we can take is 5 mg.

The Halogens - Visit our website

The halogens – including chlorine, bromine, iodine and fluorine – are analysed by means of Schöniger flask combustion followed by titration or ion chromatography. When used alongside other elemental analysis techniques (such as CH&N), this is an excellent means of assessing sample purity. Turnaround is usually two working days, though we can offer a same day service for extremely urgent samples. Accuracy is ±0.30% absolute. The minimum sample size we can take is 5 mg.

Metals (ICP-OES) - Visit our website

Metal and certain non-metal samples (such as phosphorus) are analysed using a Varian Vista MPX ICP-OES system. This is a CCD simultaneous detection instrument which uses the latest technology to ensure high precision and sensitivity.

A key aspect of successful metal analysis is correct sample preparation. At MEDAC we have a considerable amount of experience using a variety of preparation techniques and digestion methods.

Standard turnaround for metal analysis is two working days, however we can also offer a same day service for particularly urgent samples. The minimum sample size we can take is 5 mg, although larger quantities are required for trace analysis. Please get in touch to find out more.

Anions (IC) - Visit our website

Modern ion chromatographic (IC) methods allow us to analyse a wide range of anions, including sulfate, sulfite, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate and halides.

Ion chromatography is a powerful technique for the determination of fluoride anions. Most common cations, including organic cations, can be determined using this method.

Detection limit will depend on the sample type, but for aqueous solutions, analysis in the ppb (ng/ml) region is possible.

Turnaround times for IC analysis are usually within two working says, though a same day service can be arranged for particularly urgent samples. Minimum sample size is 5 mg.

Other Services - Visit our website

MEDAC has a network of partners with whom various other services can be arranged. This includes mass spectroscopy and high field NMR (hydrogen, carbon, fluorine, etc.) services. If you would like to find out more about these additional services and others, please get in touch using the contact details provided at the top of this page.

Commendations - Visit our website

At Medac Ltd we understand the importance of fast and efficient service, as well as a consistently high quality of work.  This is reflected in comments from our customers, which you can read on our website.  We have received high praise for speedy service, which our customers really appreciate.  Customers also cite quality of work, excellent service and reasonable prices.  We endeavour to continue to provide this level of service and maintain our reputation for extremely prompt handling of our customer’s requirements.

Downloads - Visit our website

We have included several useful downloads on our website, all in PDF format.  Included are general sample submission form, mass spectrometry submission form, NMR submission form, periodic table and BSi certificate.  You hope you will find these helpful and/or informative.  We do everything possible to make it easy for customers to let us know their requirements so that we can deliver the speedy and efficient service for which we are known.
