Company Description
The Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN) is a London-based learned society with charitable status. Formed in 1947, its aims are threefold:
  • To unite all those with a professional or personal interest in any aspect of positioning, navigation and timing;
  • To further the development of navigation in every sphere;
  • And to increase public awareness of the art and science of positioning, navigation and timing.
The Institute has a worldwide membership of between 2,500 to 3,000. It has branches throughout the UK as well as one in Ireland and one in Croatia, and a number of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) covering everything from satellite navigation to animal navigation. It organises a variety of events from meetings and visits at branch level to major international conferences. In addition to newsletters produced by the branches and SIGs the Institute publishes a bi-monthly magazine, Navigation News, and quarterly The Journal of Navigation. All these publications are distributed free to members.
