Micro Metalsmiths Ltd was established in 1964 and specialises in a range of production services including precision investment casting, cast machining, and a microwave radar division offering power dividers and combiners, filters, waveguide components, diplexers, rotary joints, antenna, comparators, complete radar front end solutions and sub systems. At the heart of the business, the investment casting foundry enables engineers to design and create complex shapes to meet specific requirements. This process eliminates the need to machine from solid materials. Micro Metalsmiths Ltd functions from two plants in North Yorkshire where it features a Hi Tec CNC Machine Shop, assembly department with a history of defence-related manufacture, and secured microwave laboratory with state of the art design tools and test equipment.

Our latest CNC machining technology enables us to work to short lead times and provide products to customers at cost effective prices. Our machines are fast and versatile. We have the facilities and capabilities to meet both small and large casting requirements. Our machining centres are all fitted with Renishaw probes to establish the position of detail prior to machining. Parts that have no clear area for machining are fitted with machine lugs to hold the casting but can then be removed afterwards.
We use chamfers for castings that require machining on faces, bosses or raised edges. This is to minimise de-burring operations and also to reduce cost.

Our state of the art technologies enable our team of talented designers and engineers to create quality products. We use one of the latest 3D printing systems to produce incredibly accurate prototypes and casting patterns for all kinds of creations. Examples of such creations include: dental restorations, turbine blades, medical instruments and prostheses, consumer goods, electronics and many other high-precision products. To provide a complete package to our customers, we provide a wide range of metal surface finishing processes. These include:
- As Cast: where parts removed from the mould have a surface finish equal to or better than 0.8 micrometres. This process may show variable colour.
- Chip Rumbling: to remove sharp edges after finishing and leave a surface ready for further finishing processes.
- Automatic Grit Blasting: for a uniform matt finish.
- Bead Blasting: this is undertaken with stainless steel shot and is commonly used for brass components.
- Glass Bead Blasting: created a highly polished surface finish. Mostly suitable for aluminium parts.
- Special Surface Effects: effects such as textures and knurling can be incorporated in the MM casting process.
Our finishing and testing facilities and services provide customers with a complete package in one easy process for a cost-effective solution.
