Canal Engineering Ltd, based in Nottingham, specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke architectural metalwork.

Today, separate divisions for CANAL Architectural Metalwork and Fabrication, ASPEN Stainless and AJAX Safe Access Systems, each have a wealth of experience that presently resides in the management and skilled workforce, which is a rare and much valued resource in today's industry.

CANAL: Architectural Metalwork and Fabrication completes many projects that are staircases and balustrades, but their experience extends to all aspects of Architectural Metalwork including; Canopies, Bespoke railings, Sculptures, Balconies, Signage, and Feature column cladding.

ASPEN: Stainless is now a widely recognised expert in the manufacture of hygienic plant and equipment, the wealth of knowledge and experience of the ASPEN team is becoming increasingly influential in food manufacture and processing, general construction, industrial kitchens, pharmaceutical manufacture, health services and breweries.

AJAX: Safe Access Systems has developed a range of equipment for tanker access, high level loading and to provide safe working environments to help eliminate the hazard of falls from height; the most common cause of injury in the workplace. With over 45 years of experience in high level safe access systems; AJAX barriers, gates, platforms and steps have a well proven track record for being both reliable and easy to operate; the most important factors in any safety equipment.

Canal Staircases

CANAL can produce staircases can be produced in straight, spiral or helical form. All staircases are fabricated to bespoke design criteria, catering for a true one-off requirement. CANAL is able to source any material or finish to match a design specification or the surrounding environment.

The popular Cantilever and Zigzag staircases can be finished to specific design specifications; however the manufacturing process is almost standard to the CANAL team. Primarily both styles have a steel substructure encased in timber, glass or steel and topped off with balustrades and handrails requested.

Canal Balustrades

CANAL can produce balustrade in glass, mesh, perforated sheet, tension cables and laser cut sheet in-fills, which can be specified. Other materials may also be available on request. To compliment the balustrade a choice of handrail can be fabricated in stainless steel, mild steel, timber, polyester or nylon coated, in a range of finishes. CANAL can also provide thermoplastic polymer alloy coating, conforming to UK Building Regulations.

Canal Bespoke Metalwork

CANAL has a vast knowledge and tremendous skills in metalwork fabrication and is often asked to manufacture some truly unique and unusual products. This wealth of experience has led to the completion of many successful bespoke fabrication projects, including the commissioning of sculptures, over recent years.

ASPEN design and manufacture in the UK a high quality range of long lasting, durable, specialist stainless steel industrial drainage, which can be seen in used over a range of industries. Incorporating Channels, Covers, Outlets, Gullies, Rodding Eyes, and Manholes, ASPEN are able to design a bespoke drainage system to meet the requirements of the client.

AJAX Pallet Gates and Safety Barriers

Since introducing the original AJAX safety barrier in 1965, innovation and engineering modifications have continually improved the units; models have been introduced specifically designed for the ever-increasing demand in pallet movement and size. The primary function of an AJAX safety barrier is to provide all-round edge protection to prevent injury to pallet truck operatives and other personnel when loading and unloading pallets onto high level floor openings, including mezzanine floors.

AJAX Tanker Access Steps & Platforms

The AJAX Righthite tanker access step units are used to provide a safe working environment to workers who need to gain access to areas at different heights; where safety is a priority. Units are supplied with handrails that run from the top fixed step to the last moving step and can also be supplied with a full cage to enclose the worker in a safe area. The AJAX Droprite Bridging Safe Access Platform is typically used in loading bays for loading and unloading vehicles with varying height load beds. They are also used extensively in warehouse loading docks and distribution centres as they facilitate easy loading of goods.
