Though shipping containers tend to measure 8ft in width and 20ft or 40ft in length, we can cut them down to 10ft. We usually use 40ft containers, allowing us to produce four 10ft units, one with original doors, another with original end (front wall), and two with open ends. This process of conversion means that our customers can choose the best type of door for their purpose. The original container doors are usually retained when the unit is located on a building site, predominantly because they have the advantage of having rubber door seals. The alternative is to install flat panelled doors which are far easier to open and are more attractive on the eye. This makes them ideal for school storage or as garden sheds and personal storage. But you don't have to choose between two types of door: we've used our own manufacturing facilities to produce doors that combine both kinds!

Site offices can be constructed from timber or steel. Steel structures are vandal proof, but if you do not require this level of security, timber jackleg cabins are the cheaper option. If you buy a new site office, you have the option of designing the interior to your own specification, while you can expect at least 15 years of use. Containers Direct offers flat pack containers in three different sizes, with depths of 4 metres, 3 metres and 2 metres. All units are 2.1 metres in height and 2.1 metres wide. With a galvanised body and a double locking system for additional security, these containers are the ideal vandal proof solution. They are also easy to assemble, and can be linked together to form a larger modular building. Optional extras include powder coating finishing in blue or green, forklift feet, self levelling feet, and 'snap in' shelf uprights and arms. Flat pack containers can be delivered nationwide very cheaply.

The difference between a shipping container and a storage container is that the former can be used for both shipping and storage, whilst the latter cannot always be used for shipping. The exception to this rule is that storage containers may be used for shipping if they are deck cargo (i.e. not stacked atop one another). Shipping containers must conform to ISO standards, meaning they must be built to precise specifications, which of course, costs more. These conditions do not apply to storage containers, so they can be built to any specification.
