Usually, the first time you'll know your fuel is off spec is when the bunker sample analysis is completed and returned. By then it is often too late:
The fuel is on board and the vessel may be two or three days away from the bunkering point. Corrective action may be very expensive. If you are being delivered a bad bunker, how can you know?
How do you know whether the BDN is correct?
Well now you can know enough about your fuel as it is loading to make an immediate "Accept/Reject" decision. The first chart shows a fuel that shouldn't have been accepted as it is full of air and badly mixed.
