| Company Description |
Perky Hawkins & Son Ltd is a hugely successful business supplying aluminium and alloy wire to various industries. The company has been operating since 1879 and has developed dramatically during the years. The days of slow, hand drawn production alone is long gone, and today we combine a mixture of state of the art machines and technology with reliable, old cast iron machines that are still used to draw certain grades of wire. Our mix of machinery and technology enables us to design and manufacture high quality aluminium and alloy wire products to meet various industry requirements. There is an art to drawing quality aluminium which involves being able to understand metallurgy, manipulate the process, and have the ability to optimize machines to ensure they work at their best. Here at Percy Hawkins & Son Ltd, we have the knowledge, skills and experience to create first-class products. We have provided alloy for various applications such as for use on the space station to generate energy from the earth's magnetic field, for holding up fibre optic communication cable, for heat exchangers in fine cars, military applications and more. Aluminium wire is widely used for its low density, corrosion resistant attributes. Aluminium wire is used in many manufacturing processes across the world. Aluminium is approximately three times lighter than steel which leads it to be essential for the manufacturing of many applications such as for aircraft, motor vehicles and for carrying optical fibres across electricity pylons. We supply this versatile wire in a range of grades. The most common grades we supply to the industry include 1070, 1050, 6101, 5019, 5056, 5154, and 8176 EEE, however, please contact us with your requirements. We can supply most types and grades of aluminium wire. These can be heat-treated, annealed or intermediate tensiles to suit your requirements.

Believe it or not, facts about drawn wire genuinely interest us. The melting point of pure aluminium, for example is 660.25 degrees, however when other elements are added to create an alloy the temperature can often reduce by approximately 5 degrees. Here are some of our favourite facts:
1 meter of 9.5mm aluminium rod drawn down to 2mm will be 22.5 meters long. 1 meter of 9.5mm aluminium rod drawn down to 1mm will be 90 meters long. 1 meter of 9.5mm aluminium rod drawn down to 0.15mm will be 4 kilometres long,
Put slightly differently this means that 1000meters of 9.5mm wire rod weighing 191.5kgs that is drawn down to 0.15mm will circumnavigate the globe - pretty impressive!
