Haiden Engineering Services Ltd was created and incorporated in June 2001 due to demand for the provision of consultancy and design on commercial engineering projects. The company is run by John Turner who is a Chartered Electronic Engineer with over 30 years engineering and management experience within the industry. Originally the company’s main work was consultancy, design and installation services, for electrical/electronic systems and equipment installed within buildings. Due to commercial demands this has extended over the last several years into integrated bespoke solutions for automated test and measurement.
CASE STUDY 1:- Oil Pump Test Rig
A test rig was developed that could monitor the low oil flow associated with the particular type of oil pump whilst automatically setting the flow valve on the oil pump body to the required flow rate. Time to load, set, check and then unload the oil pump was reduced to an average of 9 minutes. Information regarding the oil pump and the final calibration value were automatically saved to the companies database and a label printed showing the oil pumps details. Mechanical and Electronic hardware were designed and manufactured and integrated with National Instruments PCI DAQ boards fitted to an embedded PC. Software was written in LabVIEW. CASE STUDY 2:- Carburettor Calibration Rig A test rig was developed around clients existing process chart that could both function test and automatically set both the low idle and high speed adjustment needle valves. The mechanical hardware was designed and manufactured along with the Electronic interfacing with the clients existing DAQ hardware being integrated to save cost. Software was designed and written for the Instrument DAQ units using LabVIEW. Time to load, check, set and then unload the carburetors was reduced to an average of 16 minutes. Information regarding the carburetor and the final calibration value were automatically saved to the companies database and a label printed showing the carburetors details. Because there was different models of the carburetor with different flow rate settings the program was capable of loading a test file that held the various test and setting values for the specific carburetor being set. CASE STUDY 3:- Integrated Mobile Engine Test Facility Client had a requirement for a mobile test rig capable of rapid deployment that would be able to functionally test small combustion engines used in un-manned air-vehicles. The test rig had to be ruggesdised, simple to operate and require the minimum of external connections. Wiring links between the control room and engine test facility had to be minimal with the option of connection up to 200metres distance. equipment had to be able to operate in ambient conditions of -30 degrees C to +50 Degrees C.
