Medical Standard 1 (MS1) is a not-for-profit organisation established to assist the healthcare sector with the adoption of the GS1 coding structures and the application of these codes to asset management and supply chain management.
Comprehensive tracing of loan set equipment is a directive of the Medical Devices Agency (MDA) and consequently every healthcare organisation using loaned equipment must have access to current and historic information. MS1 provides a bureau service to assist with the management of GS1 coding in the health service. This service removes the administrative burden of managing GS1 numbers across the organisation. Using GS1 coding in combination with the bureau service has the practical benefits of enabling hospital sites to lend surgical trays and medical devices, and to quickly and easily set up disaster recovery partnerships.MS1 works closely with GS1, and as an approved GS1 solutions provider offers a range of training services.These include how the GS1 codes should be applied to the management of assets, training on how to use the MS1 asset utilities, and training for solution providers on how to build GS1 coding into their own software. In order to be part of the MS1 email community, all you need to do is to use our online registration form. Once you have submitted your details you will be supplied with a username and password for the site.As a subscriber, sites will have access to relevant information supporting the standard implementation and use of the subscribers email community for the sharing of best practise.
